That pinewood box
Is a hell of a spot
For any man to be in
And they shut the top
And they nail it to the box
That your lying in.
And it creaks and it moans
As it bounces on
Behind that horse-drawn cart
Across the cobble stones
Towards the empty hole
In the old back lot
Oh I pray to the Lord above
That them roots
Won't grow down
Punch a hole
In the top
Of my pinewood box.
They say you can hear
That howling wind
Bluebirds that singing in
Tennessee top
Of the pinewood log
That your box was made with
Oh I pray to the Lord above
That them roots
Won't grow down
Punch a hole
In the top
Of my pinewood box.
They say that the Lord
Will find a knot
Punch it on out
Take your soul
Through the tiny hole
Of your pinewood box
Take your soul
From the tiny hole
Of your pinewood box
This is traditional hillbilly style of singing - I would imagine that the accent could be hard for a non-native speaker to understand. I guess it is bluegrass but I'm not sure of the exact definition of bluegrass music.
