Σε μερικούς ανθρώπους έρχεται μια μέρα
που πρέπει το μεγάλο Ναι ή το μεγάλο το Όχι
να πούνε. Φανερώνεται αμέσως όποιος τόχει
έτοιμο μέσα του το Ναι, και λέγοντάς το πέρα
πηγαίνει στην τιμή και στην πεποίθησί του.
Ο αρνηθείς δεν μετανοιώνει. Aν ρωτιούνταν πάλι,
όχι θα ξαναέλεγε. Κι όμως τον καταβάλλει
εκείνο τ’ όχι —το σωστό— εις όλην την ζωή του.

Who made... the great refusal
A day comes for certain people
when they have the great Aye or the great Nay
to say. Forthwith revealed is the one who's got it
the Aye ready inside him, and by bringing it out
it becomes to his honour and to his belief.
The denier doesn't regret. If he were asked again,
he'd answer nay once more. Nevertheless he's brought down
by that nay —the right one— for all his life
