I didn't quite understand the French part that I translated as "Before the rain gets in our eyes." I have changed my translation to something more like your suggestion. Once we agree on a translation here, I will go back to the French translation and suggest changes to that translation.

Some of what I did was to render the French into idiomatic English. To that end, I will not be using the words you suggest because they are not quite the way we would express those ideas in English.

In that same line of reasoning, "What for is our will?" is not idiomatic English. I can see two possible ways of rendering that into idiomatic English:
1. Why do we have free will?
2. What do we wish for?
Which one is the meaning expressed in the song?

You may see what I've done as complicated, but it is just idiomatic English. It may not be a correct translation of the Polish song. And for that, I will eventually go back to get the French translation corrected, because any such errors in my translation result from the same errors in the French translation. But what you may think is complication is just the way we have to put the words together so it is proper, idiomatic English.
