I'd say symphonic metal, but I'm a lot into several kinds of metal and rock, especially alternative. But I can listen to pretty much everything, I only have a hard time with rap.

My favorite is pop-folk. It can sound strange since some people think that this is "decadent" style and call it with offensive names. But in my opinion, all musical styles are equal. There are no "inferior" styles, there are inferior "musicians" and "singers". And in almost every style there are such people. So we shouldn't generalize. And just because some people don't like it and speak whatnot, it doesn't mean that it is not good style. Yes, they say that it expresses low culture, stupidity etc because they have heard one-two vulgar songs once. But why they don't say anything about the songs with meaningful lyrics which are many more than the others? I listen to this music from little girl and I like it a lot. When I listen to it, I forget about my problems and all bad things from the past. Oh, sorry, if I was boring :) just sometimes I am too wordy. :)

I hate to say it, but if I have to choose between an intelligent song which makes my gut wrench, and an unintelligent, monosyllabic song with a happy feel, I will choose the happy feel. I'm trawling for intelligent and happy music together in the same song, but it's a challenge.

(Usually I am way too wordy.)

Oh, come on! "That Don't (sic) Impress Me Much" isn't really country (if you're listening to the pop version). And, "Achy Breaky Heart" ?!!! Uhg! If there is a hell, and if I'm sent there, that song will be playing for sure! LOL
Tell me, you didn't like "Neon Moon" ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nopBvlKfYgY I love that song!!!
Also, there's a new country song that I like a lot, "Blue Ain't (sic) Your Color" . Have you heard it? Give it a shot.

If you're talking about violins, I have to chime in.

Can't find my favorite rendition on YouTube but The Lark Ascending (classical, Ralph Vaughan Williams, 16 minutes but it's worth it) is my all-time favorite classical work. I still remember the car I was in and where I was driving the first time I heard it. I wrote down the name and bought it a few days later. Here's one rendition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzONNtE_WqM

Eileen Ivers' album Wild Blue, of Irish-inspired electric violin, is a favorite. (She's American.) Most of it is high notes and energy (Ships Are Sailing) but the one slow piece is beautiful (Maudabawn Chapel, $.89 US). Listen to the samples.

I'm a closet Achy Breaky fan!

There are different degrees, fusions, and crossovers of "country". It's an umbrella term, like jazz.

I agree that the songs you submitted are more authentic. And thanks for sharing. I'm going to check out more from Keith Urban.

The non-official opposite to Country Music is "Pop (Top 40) Music". Country stations don't play pop, and pop stations don't play country music. Both have officially split. Each have their own Music Popularity Charts, Like Rap, Soul, Cristian, etc. The radio industry in the USA has splintered into many different genres. There's only one genre that incorporates multiple types. That's called "Easy Listening" (slow, ballads, and stuff). Easy Listening stations play Soul, Pop, Country etc, as long as it's easy on the ears. LOL. But, to be more precise: Radio is ruled by huge corporations here, so anything from New York or Los Angeles (the two big POP manufacturers) will NOT play on a Country Station. Country stations are ruled by (Nashville). So none of their songs play on POP stations. I hope that explains it.

Sorry to hear about your musical upbringing. My parents were very understanding like that. They let us listen to whatever we wanted, and my two sisters, my brother and I all have different musical tastes. My father liked Polkas, and my mother liked Easy Listening. We heard practically all English music in my house. The only thing that was banned was anything that my parents considered "offensive", which was normally something anti-religious. But, few of those songs ever got on the radio, so we heard almost everything. To this day, I still like a lot from different genres, even some Polkas. LOL.
As a funny side note, my mother almost didn't let me buy ABBA's Greatest Hits back in 1977 because Benny and Frida were kissing on a park bench on the cover. My mother thought that was almost obscene. But, I won when I told her that they sang "Fernando". Then she said, "Oh! That's them?!!!" She shrugged and said, "It's unbelievable that such a nice group can have such horrible album covers!" Then she mumbled something like, "It's probably not their fault, they were probably forced to take that picture by the record company." LMAO.
Oh, memories, light the corners of my mind....

Bob Dylan's music is a blend of blues, folk and rock. But he is extremely versatile and has done other music genres like Country and Gospel, plus other types like Jazz. The greatest white female rock singer of the 1960s, Janis Joplin was also a great blues singer, making her material her own.

Yes. I've noticed that Country music has become more POP. This is because they used to allow extreme Southern accents in Nashville music. But because much of the country doesn't like the accent (because it sounds uneducated to city folk), now country singers sing much clearer, and do not use their strong (original) accents. This makes their music sound more appealing to more people. Also, the music has become more pop too. As for influence. Singers like Shania Twain "cross over" from country to pop. Once a country singer moves from Nashville to New York or LA, only her old songs will be played on Country stations, and only her new POP songs will be played on POP stations. Dolly Parton is one of the few singers who is welcome in Nashville and NY and LA.
Shania Twain remade her country songs as pop songs. So the same song, plays on both types of radio stations, with different music. Here's an example: "That Don't Impress Me Much"
Country Version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqFLXayD6e8
POP Version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5nbVD7PiKw
