Hey guys,

How much of a language does a song need to have for me to put it as one of the languages of the original lyrics? Like if the whole song is English, for example, but has 2 words in Spanish, should I include Spanish as one the languages that song has at the top (so English, Spanish)?

Please let me know what you guys think!

I'd say it's not needed as long as you don't need a native speaker to translate them.

To be honest, some of these annoying1 K-pop songs hardly require an "English" tag. Most of their English is just a couple of words anyone could lookup in a few minutes.

  • 1. I mean, annoying when they show up in the translation request list. I have nothing against K-pop :)

I'm asking because I have OCD so I love when everything is really well labelled and organized and since i'm on the excessive side of that I wanted to know some normal peoples take on it :). Thank you silenced, I know sometimes it's a lot although I really like that feature a lot it gives a quick glance of what languages are in what song and it's really nice that way. More features the better :)!

I don't really think that's necessary to mention Spanish as a language in the song too, since it's not used as much.

I mention them anyway, regardless of times used. It's there, isn't it, so why shouldn't it be mentioned?

Because of this problem of the songs showing up in translation request lists.
Getting notified of a Spanish request just to translate "hola" and "te quiero" might be a bit annoying :)

If there's an entire verse in another language, I think it's OK to have a separate translation. If it's only a couple of words, I'll put it in footnotes or annotations. If it's awkward to do that, then it should have its own separate translation.

One of my most popular translations is "Dinero" by Jennifer Lopez into English, and that's like 10% Spanish. And I think that's because enough non-Spanish speakers hear the lyrics, wonder what it means, and Google it, which brings traffic to LT.

If you don't know what the words mean, ask in the forums and add the translation as "annotations". Then, you wouldn't have to include the language, technically. This is only if it's 2-3 words, or the same word over and over again. If it's full sentences (it could be one sentences, 2, a whole verse) then you do need to add another language.
