The sun rises slowly over the field,
countless dewdrops glitter in the light,
but this silence is so deceptive,
for something is missing from this world.
The butterflies are gone.
The fields and the meadows are empty...
The city's poisoned breath over the field
kills the life that the Earth possesses.
A defenseless nature is exposed to our activities.
A green facade for a sick world.
The butterflies are gone...
We look at the Earth with blind eyes,
oblivious to the wounds on its face.
Why don't we understand that, once the animals are gone,
our time will also come to an end?

Songs like that should frighten, yes. Well, they do, but only that kind of people who think about these problems anyway.
35 years ago, it was still common for a gas station attendant to clean the windscreen of insect debris as a service. This is no longer necessary, the glass is still clean after a thousand highway kilometers - what a step forward! Only certain gourmets in many Mediterranean countries may at some point be annoyed that the valued appetizers are becoming more expensive as the insect-eating birds are disappearing...
Apparently some people were aware of the problem back in '83. Yet look at the kind of people we elect 35 years later...
