Funny thing

See, I'm young and I still don't know why
I've been doing all this without an afterthought.
Saying yes is always easy,
saying no never is.
I said so many times I wouldn't do it ever again.

But I think the way up
is strewn with drugs.
All my friends are into it,
I've been rolling and smoking and lying.
I've been rolling and smoking and lying.

See, I know how much it weighs, when it lies in front of me
and from where to get the stuff, if you love it so much
that you can't spend a single day without it.
Funny thing, how it changes everything.

I can't remember the last time
I was sober enough to think of it.
I thought maybe
some day I could somehow
leave it all behind
and start all over again
and be different for somebody who loves me.
Funny thing, how it changes everything.

See, I know how much it weighs, when it lies in front of me
and from where to get the stuff, if you love it so much
that you can't spend a single day without it.
Funny thing, how it changes everything.

See, I know how much it weighs, when it lies in front of me
and from where to get the stuff, if you love it so much
that you can't spend a single day without it.
Funny thing, how it changes everything.

There's a typo =afterthought

I don't agree with "It's weird" - no way. It's something like "Such a shame" :)

another option would be: "it is quite strange ... " or "it is real strange ... "
"such a shame" IMO doesn't nail it

Tricky as I don't understand German... ;)
'Funny thing... / Funny how' could be interpreted as 'strange', 'odd' etc but it could also carry a little pathos so that might be the right feel for what you're after?
Look at dance away for a masterful example.

But maybe gather some more opinions first.

In this case "schon krass" is indeed a nonchalant way of expressing that something is surprising, odd, baffling, hard to believe. I think "funny thing" is the perfect choice here.

I'd better go hide in the corner then :)

"schon krass" sagt man, so wie ich die heutige Jugendsprache deuten würde,
wenn man von etwas sehr überrascht ist, etwas sehr auffällig findet, sehr außergewöhnlich.

I looked it up in my standard online dictionary "Leo".
They propose: crass, glaring, rankly, blatant, gross, starkly, incredible, rank [pej.], rad [sl.], really phat [sl.]
to be in stark contrast to sth. = in krassem Gegensatz zu etwas stehen
the contrast could hardly be starker = der Gegensatz hätte kaum krasser sein können

I actually think that "Funny thing" is a very, very good pick.

I think "it's quite baffling" or maybe "ludicrous" would also work, but I prefer "Funny thing".

Seconded. "Isn't it strange" or "sometimes it's hard to believe" would also come to mind, but "funny thing" seems to be the most natural choice.
