En La Esquina (Down On The Corner)

I have a question what does the word Tupen mean specifically in the song lyrics here? I don't know if it's some type of slang or not, all I know is it's related to the word Tupir.

It's the present form of "tupir".

They play with energy.

Okay thank you for explaining it to me I just had no clue what it was before lol but thank you! Is the word more popular in certain countries like Mexico for example? I just don't hear the word Tupen or even Tupir a lot.

The meaning they use in the song is mexican for sure. But it's an old song so maybe not that popular anymore. I've heard it used meaning "to beat someone up", but really it's the same root, "to do it with energy".

My dad has told me in Cuba the word "Tupir" is used when someone gets lied to but still interesting how the same words could have very different meanings depending on the country. But still, thanks for the lesson definitely learned something new today so thank you again!

That's an interesting meaning. Indeed, different people and the meanings go different places. No problem, glad to help.
