Lacul
Lacul codrilor albastru
Nuferi galbeni îl încarcă;
Tresărind în cercuri albe
El cutremură o barcă.
Și eu trec de-a lung de maluri,
Parc-ascult și parc-aștept
Ea din trestii să răsară
Și să-mi cadă lin pe piept;
Să sărim în luntrea mică,
Îngânați de glas de ape,
Și să scap din mână cârma,
Și lopețile să-mi scape;
Să plutim cuprinși de farmec
Sub lumina blândei lune -
Vântu-n trestii lin foșnească,
Undoioasa apă sune!
Dar nu vine... Singuratic
În zadar suspin și sufăr
Lângă lacul cel albastru
Încărcat cu flori de nufăr.

The Lake
The blue lake inside the woods,
Full of yellow water lilies floating;
Flickers slowly in white circles,
And a lonely boat is trembling.
I pass along by the banks,
Like I'm listening like I'm waiting, a quest,
She from the reeds to rise,
And to fall smoothly on my chest;
Then to jump into the small boat,
Imitated by the water voice,
And the rudder to slip from my hand,
And finally, to drop the oars;
Surrounded by charm to float,
Under the soft moonlight round-
The wind gently through reeds to rustle,
Let the rippled water sound!
But she doesn't come... Lonely
In vain I sigh and suffer
Near the blue lake
Loaded with water lily flowers.
