ورى ظهر النهار means that the day is person and have a back, and i am sitting behind that back

I have a question for any fluent Arabic speakers out there. I love this song, and I’ve recently been trying to understand it line by line with my beginner’s Arabic. Can anyone suggest a more colloquial translation of ورى ظهر النهار? I get that he’s been sitting for a while, but for how long? What is “behind daylight’s back” or as I read it, “In front of noon of the day”? Would it be noon? Before noon? Or does ظهر mean “appear” as in “the appearance of the day”, in other words dawn? Thanks in advance for any assistance!
