I turn off the tv, I write you a letter
About how I can’t look at the shit anymore,
About how I have no energy,
About how I almost started to drink but haven’t forgotten you.
About how the phone rang, wanted me to stand,
To get dressed and walk, more precisely, to run.

That I’m sick and tired and didn’t sleep last night.

But we got lucky with the weather, it’s been raining for four days,
Although they said on the radio it’d be hot even in the shade.

And so days follow one another. One day we eat, the next three drink,
All in all, having a good time, even though it’s raining outside.
The tape-recorder is broken,
I sit in silence and I’m pretty happy about it.
I wait for an answer, there is no hope anymore.

Outside is construction, the crane is working,
The restaurant behind the corner has been closed for five years.
And there’s a jar on the table,
The jar holds a tulip, and there’s a glass on the window-sill.
And so one year follows another, so the life will be lived,
And for the hundredth time toast will fall buttered side down.
But maybe there’ll be a day,
Maybe there’ll be an hour when we’re in luck
I wait for an answer, there is no hope anymore.
