This song really deserves a better translation than this. I noticed right away how much meaning you lost while trying to give this song a 'word per word' translation, really, you should write it as accurately as possible, knowing that your readers will understand that the English translation will not necessary go along with the rhythm of the original German. It also seems that you are either a terrible translator, where taught by someone who doesn't know both English and German very well, you are just lazy and put as little time into throwing this together as possible, or you just simply don't have any appreciation for the actual and whole meaning of lyrics at all and think that it's ok to extremely over-paraphrase and hope that people reading your translation won't have a clue about German and therefor completely overlook the fact that did a terrible job here.
People, please listen to me. The best reason to be educated is that you won't be fooled by people who claim to be.
