My Heart Burns
My heart burns, my soul burns
My heart burns, my soul burns,
smoke rises from the eyes
Flirt with your smile,
shine like a large pearl,
you pretty full moon1 of a beautiful hue,
you dancing golden moonlight!
Flirt with your smile,
shine like a large pearl,
you pretty full moon of a beautiful hue,
you dancing golden moonlight
Aren't you a golden anklet,
a cooing cuckoo,
a peahen to your groom?
Aren't you a golden anklet,
a cooing cuckoo,
a peahen to your groom?
My heart burns, my soul burns, from the eyes
smoke rises, all night long, smoke rises
I don't know why, I don't know why, my companion
My heart burns, my soul burns, from the eyes
smoke rises, all night long, smoke rises
I don't know why, I don't know why, my companion
My heart burns, my soul burns
He looks at my body, in my heart his glance pricks
He looks at my body, in my heart his glance pricks
Still my lips and his lips get woven together (seal a kiss)
I keep on counting my chain
of tossing and turnings, what shall I do,
how should I speak, and when shall this night end
My heart burns, my soul burns, from the eyes
smoke rises, all night long, smoke rises
I don't know why, I don't know why, my companion
My heart burns, my soul burns, from the eyes
smoke rises, all night long, smoke rises
I don't know why, I don't know why, my companion
My heart burns, my soul burns
Hey short-tailed bird2, short-tailed bird,
your groom is cooing and crowing and swinging on the jequirity tree,
having made a nest, he calls you for company,
He is cooing and crowing and calling you for company
Aren't you a golden anklet,
a cooing cuckoo,
a peahen to your groom?
Aren't you a golden anklet,
a cooing cuckoo,
a peahen to your groom?
In each organ of my body, burns a spark of pain
In the fragrance of crushed flowers, a garden of butterflies
All night the poor henna is ground under my feet
What shall I do, how should I speak,
when shall this night end
My heart burns, my soul burns, from the eyes
smoke rises, smoke rises
all night long, smoke rises, smoke rises
I don't know why, I don't know why, my companion
My heart burns, my soul burns, from the eyes
smoke rises, smoke rises, all night long, smoke rises
I don't know why, I don't know why, my companion
My heart burns, my soul burns, my heart burns

The Malayalam sections' translation is fully my own. I had help from the following page for the Hindi sections:
https://www.bollynook.com/en/lyrics/9958/jiya-jale/
There is a contrast between the Malayalam and Hindi sections. The Malayalam sections are cheerfully urging the bride to take the leap, while the Hindi sections are the bride's internal monologue, which seem to be expressing self doubt and forebodings of disaster. In the movie, a woman from the groom's past reappears at the wedding as part of the plot.
