Amsterdam

Waking up to sip from the abundance
Zero sugar and the water is sweet
I don't despair from tasting eternity
I'll come in due course

Give it to the tired, weary heart
Peeling and shivering
Shedding from the ordinary, from nature
Mustering courage to be

Only not to sleep and wake up a guest again
Only to hope for salvation
Let me be the rich, the happy
Let me reap in joy

And give it to the tired, weary heart
Peeling and shivering
Shedding from the ordinary, from nature
Mustering courage to be
Mustering courage to be
Mustering courage and to be

On Sabbath I feel like Baal Shem Tov1
On Saturday evening I feel like Sabbatai Zevi2 (I don't)
Able to breathe all that is happening here (maybe because)
Everything that happens in the street also happens in me (everything that happens in the street also happens in me)
There's Bnei Brak3 in me, there's Gaza in me
There's every program of Ulpan Shishi4 in me
There's a beast in me, a shitty kid
There's a Third Temple5 in me
Conflicted and confused, blessed and cursed
Looking for a friend who won't panic
To remind me that I'm capable
To sing with me even when it's not easy
Sing about me when the crowd replaces me
When luck deserts me
When God tests me and asks
What happened? What happened?
Atoning for everything
What happened? What happened?
Atoning for everything

Conflicted and confused, blessed and cursed
Looking for a friend who won't panic
To remind me that I'm capable
To sing with me even when it's not easy
Sing about me when the crowd replaces me
When luck deserts me
When God tests me and asks
What happened? What happened?
Atoning for everything
What happened? What happened?
Atoning for everything
What happened? What happened?
Atoning for everything
What happened? What happened?
Atoning for everything

I don't despair from tasting eternity
I'll come in due course
