I struggled synthesizing my understanding of the lyrics in Japanese with how I'd translate it to English, honestly. I haven't listened to the whole of the Mephisto album and it's cool to learn there's a song about Faust too. Though this song, Faust, is definitely more about Mephistopheles, I'd gather. It's from Mephistopheles' perspective, about the pact he makes with Faust. This makes sense as Mephisto appears to be from the perspective of Faust. I'm going to be perfectly honest, I'm a bit familar with the Faustian legend and also the events of Goethe's version, but I've never actually read the latter. As far as I know, the story of Mephisto doesn't accurately reflect Faust's journey. Things started to go sour for that guy when he started using Mephistopheles' power to get a woman to sleep with him (she had his baby, she killed the baby, she's killed for killing the baby, I think she was convicted of witchcraft? I don't remember). Mephisto by Queen Bee feels far more suited to Oshi no Ko's Aqua (and Ruby), what with Ai literally giving them more time on earth. Faust, however, seems far more direct with how it's about the Faustian legend. Excuse my rant, I love Queen Bee

The way I interpret the song is that it's actually mostly from Faust's perspective. Avu-chan, the deeper voice, is Faust. Mephisto is Avuchi, who introduces herself as the pop idol from Hell when the music changes at「呼んだ？」. After this, most of the rest of the song is again from Avu-chan/Faust's perspective, with a few interjections from Avuchi/Mephisto, for example in「願いを叶えて、あげないぞ」, the high voice is Mephisto.

Also, now that I'm thinking about it, perhaps the line「思ったよりむしろかなり好き」, sounds strange and robotic because it is meant to be said by both characters?

That's totally fair! I definitely see your point (I understand that sounds like I don't but I do, it makes total sense from that perspective). The reason I think it's more about Mephistopheles is the context from the myth from which this album takes its inspiration. It feels more like the thoughts of a mildly interested demon than the thoughts of a genius, perfect human lauded by God as incorruptible who succumbs to sin when presented with Mephistopheles' power to me.

Your perspective makes sense too! I do think, if the song is in Faust's perspective, he may sound depressed or looking to have a wish granted, because although he was a genius, he felt he had no true happiness or reason for living. He searched for life's answers through every field of study possible, and never found them. In exchange for his soul, Mephisto was to teach him to find pleasure in life. This is why I think Avuchi is Mephisto, pretty much butting in like "You called? It's time to party!!!"
Again though, this was just how I understood the song, it could go either way! (I'm still holding out hope we'll get a MV, it's just too catchy not to have one!)

Oh, an MV for this song would be wonderful. Maybe we'd get more from the sort of dingy classic live house vibe from the latest MV...
