My land

From my beautiful land
From my hallowed land
I hear the cry of the drums
And the timpani while celebrating
And that song being sang by a pal
Who's living far from his land
And the memory of it makes him cry
A song that he frequently sings
From his anguish and his crying
And his penance can be heard
The land that you ache for, the land aims for you
In the middle of the soul when you're no longer there
The land pushes you from roots and lime
The land sighs if it sees you no more
The land where you were born, you can't forget it
Because it has your roots and what you leave behind
The land that you ache for, the land aims for you
In the middle of the soul when you're no longer there
The songs continue, the melancholy
And every night next to the moon
The peasant keeps singing the song
And every street that leads to my town
Has a whimper, has a wail
Has nostalgia as their voice
And that song that he keeps singing
Runs in the blood and keeps pumping on
Ever stronger towards the heart
The land that you ache for, the land aims for you
In the middle of the soul when you're no longer there
The land pushes you from roots and lime
The land sighs if it sees you no more
It has a whimper
(My land!)
It has a wail
(My land!)
I never forget it
(My land!)
I have it in my feelings, yes sir!
I here that scream
(My land!)
The memory lives on
(My land!)
It runs in my blood
(My land!)
I have it inside, of course!
(My land!)
Song from my beautiful, hallowed land
(My land!)
I too suffer that pain in his soul
(My land!)
Even though I'm far, I feel it
(My land!)
And one day I will return, I know
The songs continue, the melancholy
And every night next to the moon
The peasant keeps singing the song
And every street that leads to my town
Has a whimper, has a wail
Has nostalgia as their voice
It reaches my heart with power
The land that you ache for, the land aims for you
In the middle of the soul when you're no longer there
The land pushes you from roots and lime
The land sighs if it sees you no more

Author's comments:
- The song is a reference to Cuba, Estefan having fled the country when she was ~2 years old with her family, due to the Cuban Revolution.
- The song was written by Estefan and the Colombian singer/songwriter/producer Estéfano (Fabio Alonso Salgado, no relation to Estefan), who was part of the singing duo Donato y Estéfano.
