Translation

Still longing for her

In the morning,
I used to like going to the café in my hood
And have breakfast to the smell of beans and falafel
And enjoy my cigarette

Greet my people and my family
Say good morning to my neighbor and the girl next door
The beautiful one who calls me when she sees me
And has her clock synched with mine

I walk with her and we talk
Laugh and exchange stories
Until it goes dark
And I fall silent and she says “sing to me’

I sing and see the twinkle in her eyes
She prays for me and wishes for me
I whisper in her ear
Cause I’m the cool guy of my hood

Lost in thought, she says you’re a poet
Who plays with words and their meanings
You find your way around a maze, you’re clever
You’re all tough and then soft again

My problem is with her eyes
That take me away and back
But the country I’m from
Sold me out and beat me down

My problem is with her eyes
That take me away and back
But the country I’m from
Sold me out and beat me down

I left you my love and you left me
But I’m a lover still longing for you

I need you to hold me and hide me away

I will return to my hood once more
To the smell of beans and falafel
I’m like a fish caught on a rod

I will return to my hood once more
To the smell of beans and falafel
I’m like a fish caught on a rod
Whose life ends outside of the water
