Love Story

His soul lost
He lives but barely speaks
He waits for her
In front of this photograph of long ago
He, he's not crazy
He believes in it that's all
He sees her everywhere
He waits for her standing
A rose in hand
Apart from her he expects nothing
Nothing around makes sense
And the air is heavy
His gaze absent
He's lonely, he talks to her often
He, he's not crazy
He loves her that's all
He sees her everywhere
He waits for her standing, standing
A rose in hand
No, no nothing is keeping him

In his love story
In his love story
In his love story
His love story

Take my hand
Promise me that everything will be fine
Hold me tight
Near you I still dream
Yes, yes I want to stay
But I don't know how to love anymore
I've been too stupid
I'm asking you stop, stop
How sorry I am, no I didn't want all this
I'll be rich1 and
And I'll give you2 all my gold
If you don't give a damn I
I'd wait for you at the harbor
If you ignore me I,
Would give you my last breath of life

In my love story
In my love story
In my love story
My love story

One candle
Can light up the night
One smile
Can build a whole empire
And there's you
And there's me
And no one believes it
But love makes a king out of a fool
And if you ignore me I'd fight again and again

It's your love story
It's your love story
It's the story of a life
Love story

Shouts of joy
A few tears, we leave
We live in this love story3

Beautiful and accurate translation of a beautiful song.

It's by far my favourite song of hers. An funnily enough, I just nocticed that the version of the music video does indeed leave out the "Des Cris de joie...." part. Seems like it's only included in the album version of the song. :)

Nice to hear, and thanks, Lilmon; and thanks for letting me know where the missing verses went. :-)

You're very welcome, and it's always a pleasure to read one of translation :)

Seems like those cheeky lyrics just ran off without saying a word ;D

In the footnotes, I've now included a link to what appears to be the official lyrics, which I have followed in my translation. The internet seems to be all over the place when it comes to the correct spelling of the six verses starting with "Je serai riche et." For example, contrary to these official lyrics, for those verses Musixmatch uses the "ai" ending for all the verbs which could end in either "ai" (i.e. the future tense) or "ais" (i.e. the conditional tense); and they do the same for the later verse, "J'me battrai encore et encore" (i.e. "battrai," vs. "battrais" in the official lyrics).

The link is definitely a good idea. I have the album at home, and I just checked. The picture is from the official booklet of the CD, so that's at least an official source.

The mix up of futur simple and conditionel is something I've encountered a lot while looking up French lyrics, so it's seems to be a recurring issue. I mean, technically, -ai and -ais are supposed to be pronounced in different ways, but that's a rule French speaker do not really follow in their every day life (https://www.reddit.com/r/French/comments/6i9m3q/do_native_french_speaker...)

Agreed that this seems to be a widespread transcription difficulty, and nice link, Lilmon. Here is another one: https://www.lawlessfrench.com/pronunciation/ai/. I had actually forgotten about this distinction, but yes, I personally pronounce them differently.

I also stumbled upon that site when I was having a look looking up the topic of pronunciation. It's definitely worth a read! I was about to ask wether you made a distinction or not while speaking, so that's interesting to hear :)
Btw, just had a look in a book about French phonetics, and the author also says that there seems to be a certain trend that -ai (as an ending for future simple) is pronounced like -ais more and more.
