My Mood is Becoming Low
Click to see the original lyrics (Finnish)
I should not be singing, should not
Should not be singing my songs at all
I am in a low mood
Low is where my mood resides
Whatever can it be that has brought
This low mood to me specifically?
Sorrowful is this little bird
This sad bird is feeling reticent
I reflect on my life
I worry these worries of mine
I have five worries churning in my mind
And my mother's worries as well
I should not be singing, should not
Should not be singing my songs at all
That which dawn raises
My mood only lowers
Swamps will melt, the ground will crumble
The shores of the sea will abate
My sorrows will stay unchanged
Only the chill will remain with me
I reflect on my life
I worry these worries of mine
I have five worries churning in my mind
And my mother's worries as well
I reflect on my life
I worry these worries of mine
Trouble I have falling asleep
Only barely can I pass out from exhaustion

Translations of "Mieleni alenevi"
English #1, #2
Comments
Russia is waging a disgraceful war on Ukraine. Stand With Ukraine!
"Mieleni alenevi" = lit. "my mind is lowered"
"Mieli alhaalla" = lit. "the mind is down below"
"Mieli maassa" = lit. "mind on the ground"
"Surulintu", "kaiholintu" = lit. "sad bird", "longing bird"
... and so on - all of which are idioms for being in a melancholy state of mind. The lyrics contain a lot of word play and personification, neither of which translates very well into English.
I do not vouch for my perfect understanding of this particular dialect.
