Translation
Zana and Andok
It’s night-time, stars are in the sky
The wind is trembling across the mountains
And it won’t be long until the dawn
But the streets are dark and foreboding;
And this city is cold. (2 x)
Zana is the comrade of Andok,
and the grandson of Sheikh Saîd;
He’s the eagle of the cliffs!
But oh, there is no reply from you!
But you’ve got to keep moving, my comrades, (Zana and Andok), Because the enemy is on your trail! (2 x)
------(musical bridge)-------
The age-old darkness has started spreading again.
Deep sorrows have engulfed Zana; he breathes deeply:
Word has come, that Zana is wounded;
He moans with pain, on the shoulders of Andok. (2 x)
Andok is the comrade of Zana:
Zana, the lamb of my mother;
The voice of the mountains…
Oh, would that Mem might have died instead!
The call for help came too late;There was nothing we could do! (2 x)

This translation is based on a more literal translation which another LT member and fluent Kurmanji speaker produced, (so far unpublished), and in cooperation with whom I then edited it in order to produce a more fluent, colloquial, literary text in English.
