As a Slavist and not an Anglicist I now think I imagined the image of the boat beaching with translating холодный etc as a dry berth , i e no water underneath on the beach. I now realise from reading Anglicists’ versions that it’s a jetty or wharf. I was waxing lyrical! Note also , in English the word ‘boat’ actually has a gender: it’s a ‘she’. In the other bit I imagined the wind flapping the boat cover or the sail or something. . But it did seem in the Russian as if the wharf or the boat spoke the question about how far the tide had gone out.
