And the man drew his bow on his knees

Then he shot the crow so she fell down.

Then he harnessed up the ten foals3

But the crow blew all of them

Then he flayed the crow and butchered her up,

She weigthed nearly sixteen and twenty pounds.

From the skin he made twelve pairs of shoes,

The best pair he gave to mother.

The meat he salted in barrels and casks,

And the tounge he had for jule food.

The mouth he used to grind grains

And of the ears he made musical horns

Of the eyes he made window glas

And the neck he put as adornment on the church

And those who cannot use a crow like this,

Hey fara, use a crow like this.

He is not worthy of a crow to get.

2. nonsense words. It is common for the chorus (2nd and 4th lines) in folk songs
3. could be a young horse of more than a year in some dialects

This is an old and popular Norwegian folk song. It is also known as "Bonden og kråka" (the farmer and the crow) and "Mannen han gjekk seg i vedaskog" (the man went into the woods)There are several melodies to it, though this is the one mostly known today. Due to its widespread popularity there exsists version in many dialects, and also in Swedish, Danish and Faeroyisk. This particular version is from Hardanger in western Norway.

There are many more verses than these, and one might also invent more verses with more ways to use the crow.
