Ждать is the infinitive form of the verb, for example: Мне нужно ждать автобус. (I need to wait for the bus.)
Подожди is the imperative form, telling/ordering someone to stay, for example: Подожди меня! (Wait for me!)
Now, I didn't really listen to the song or pay much attention, just translated it without giving it much thought. It seemed as the singer is telling that person to wait as an imperative rather than saying wait in a more general sense (I was possibly wrong).
As for the last line, I think that both translations are good, but mine might be slightly more grammatically correct.
All in all, surely the creator knows better as it's her song and lyrics plus she is Russian, but both translations capture the meaning of the text and fit well.

according to this tiktok by the creator the chorus should be
Ждать, все, чего я хотел, чтобы ты осталась
В вечных объятиях
Но это наполняет мое сердце болю когда уйдешь
(although "В вечном объятии" is probably still the correct translation for the second line)
