Ask the Stars

I had just passed by
a big neon green sign
when someone called out: "Hey there,
I can read you1,
you look quite lost."
By the door stood a man
with a convincing face,
I thought: "What have I got to lose?
I'll give in,
I'll go in."
He said: "The stars, they say
what kind of a person you are.
Jump if you dare
to risk your life.
And you don't know even half
of what I can read here,
but remember before you jump:
ask the stars when."

He took me for a ride,
a guided tour through my life,
and we had soon passed the border
to what is called future.
I should have left but
something held me back --
yes, the will to know
what would await me one day.

He said: "The stars, they say
what kind of a person you are.
Jump if you dare
to risk your life.
And you don't know even half
of what I can read here,
but remember before you jump:
ask the stars when."

"You might meet someone
who jeopardizes your existence."
I got up to leave and said:
"Whatever happens, happens.

But I am no slave
under the powers that rule.
I have a will of my own,
I will never need to flee."

He said: "Ask the stars when."

I remember the green sign
and the street's smell of burning,
and somewhere within me
a door's left ajar,
because even if I don't believe
in the stars as a rule
I find it hard to forget
those words that he said:
"The stars, they say
what kind of a person you are.
Jump if you dare
to risk your life.
And you don't know even half
of what I can read here,
but remember before you jump:
ask the stars when."
