Translation
New York, New York
This is something new.
I just now got the idea.
I want to go and conquer
New York, New York.
To make a grand spectacle from head to toe,
I put gold in my glitter,
New York, New York.
I picture myself the queen of this temple of music.
All the kings of the city are in my audience.
One hundred thousand bravos
colliding from all sides.
It's you who applaud in my head,
New York New York
And if I knew how to please you
I would conquer the earth.
If only I would please New York, New York.
New York, New York.
I picture myself the queen of this temple of music.
And all the kings of the city, all of my audience—
theater on Broadway under electric lights.
One hundred thousand bravos
(One hundred thousand bravos)
colliding from all sides
(colliding from all sides)
It's you who applaud in my head, my old New York.
And if I knew how to please you, I would conquer the earth.
If only I would please New York, New York.

Author's comments:
This is an adaptation of the "Theme from New York, New York," sung in the 1977 film by Liza Minelli and later made famous by Frank Sinatra. The music is by John Kander and the lyrics by Fred Ebb. Like many adaptations into French, what were clever lyrics in the original English version become rather banal in the French version. In particular, the imagery of New York City that pervaded Fred Ebb's lyrics here became rather hamstrung and ridiculous. Perhaps that is why so many of the French words (for example, claquer, crouler, and even plaire) can't readily be translated back into English. For more information on the song and original lyrics, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theme_from_New_York,_New_York
