GodwithusIn the Tamil speaking diaspora, it is believed that if a person meets with an unnatural death (before their time has come), they're not allowed to enter the rest of death until their destiny or longing that tethers their soul to the living world is fulfilled, their destiny can vary from very little to great things (wanting to kiss their lover, wanting to visit a place they've never been, wanting to help orphaned children) That is why even today, in an unforeseen event of a person's death, their closer ones make special offerings to the deceased person and donate to orphanages and charities, as a rite that would allow the deceased person to attain peace and release them from the tether of life, when this fails to happen for a dead person, their soul is to wander the earth until their longing is fulfilled intentionally or accidentally by anyone/anything. This song is sung from the prospective of these wandering souls longing to attain the peace of Death.
