Three Kingdom Love

General, a granary in the north has been occupied.
Six horses and twelve soldiers await your arrival.
The spike fiddle1 speaks of the heroic deeds.
The defeated army retreats towards the south, away from the north.

Home lies in that beautiful distance.
Expectations are carried upon oneself; dreams wander.
The strength that remains upon the shoulders—
How far can [it] hold out?

[I] await that moment when [my] beloved2 returns.
[My] tears sing for you.

On that day when I left you and went far away,
Blue rain fell before my eyes.
Proud tears dared not surrender my eyes.

On that day when I left you and went far away,
Gray dreams slept beside me.
I should have long since become accustomed to nights without you.
[I] bravely face [it].

[At] the Red Cliffs,3 a battle where flames of war scrape the sky and burn everywhere
Only kills seventy thousand of our brothers.
[I] write a diary [entry] upon the surface of the Yangtze River3;
[I] hope that you are also able to see the ripples.

Home lies in that beautiful distance.
Tears [fall] facing away from the light, quiet and full of sorrow.

I attempt to face [it]. The gray night is still right in front of [me].
