I Do Not See Companionship in Anyone
I do not see companionship in anyone [anymore], what happened to the companions?
When did friendship come to an end? What happened to the lovers?
The water of life has become of dark hue, where is the auspicious Khezr1?
The flower was to become of its own color, what happened to the wind of the springs?
Hundreds of thousands flowers bloomed and the call of a bird didn't rise up [into the air]
What came before the Nightingale2? What happened to those thousands [of flowers]?
The ruby of the treasure of chivalry hasn't emerged for years
What happened to the shining of the sun and the effort of the wind and rain?
No one says that the companion had a right to a friend
What happened to the grateful [friends]? What happened to the companions?
There was a town of companions and the soil of kind people in this land
When did the kindness end? What happened to the city of companions?
They had casted words of luck and bounty amidst [the town square]
No one enters the town square, what happened to the riders3?
Hafez, no one knows the secrets of the divine, be quiet
From who do you ask, "what happened to the cycle of the days [that have passed]"?
