Io sono il viaggio
I am the travel
Slow or fast means of trasport
Twenty changes or express
Same fatal goal, yes, but different itineraries
I dream of a travel like Melville's
Not a cargo vessel
My life is for Moby Dick
Not for a couple of fishes
I'm crawling, then I stand up like a leopard on a crest
Even on the high seas, art is the polar star
I've followed it through the skies like an astrolabe
Young Aldobrando, I leave my house and I run through the world
In the wagon I sleep, in the aisle
I come and go like a frown,1 I dream and
The point of view broadens
If I stick my head out of the space ship
I learn that there's no such thing as a demise
If the efforts pay off
Like the Artzac pterosaur
I've got a character on my back
I want to take him off
I want to wander around the cosmos
I'm putting up with the wait
I'm learning to love the harvest and the fallow
I'm Corto Maltese, watching the seagulls from the town's harbour
I've understood that everytime you reach the end of the line
There's a new ticket peeking out
I'll write on the back of the postcard:
I'm the travel
I'm the baggage
I'm the take off
I'm the goal
I'm the travel
I'm the baggage
I'm the take off
I'm the goal
I am...
I'm the exausted castaway, face in the sand
Sirens still screaming my condemnation
I follow the crosses on the map of this audiogram
I'm Atlantis, sinking under sea
Don't leave me here, please
Give me more challenges and tides
God, thy will be done
But let me know what is it
I've been the pilgrim's sandals
Lost in a desert like the Kalahari
I've been the sand on my path
When I used to become arid like certain intellectuals
I'm the cabin boy, the captain on the bridge
I've been dead and resurrected many times
Little prince, young Holden2
I'm the old man going to the sea and still challenging the waves
And I implore Prometheus to bring me fire again
After all, I still have gallons of ink to use
I wear Phileas Fogg's shoes3 and I fly away
I land and then I'm off again
I'm the travel
I'm the baggage
I'm the take off
I'm the goal
I'm the travel
I'm the baggage
I'm the take off
I'm the goal
I'm the travel
I'm the baggage
I'm the take off
I'm the goal

- 1. "passeggero" means both "passenger" and "temporary, transitory", like a frown when someone is not really sad.
- 2. "The young Holden" is the Italian title of the famous novel "The catcher in the rye" by J. D. Salinger.
- 3. literally, it says "I put on Phileas Fogg's clothes", but it is a reference to an Italian idiom ("mettersi nei panni di...") which has the same meaning as "to wear someone else's shoes".
