Well, the word "cariño" is a neutral term used by both genders, unlike "querido" (male) and "querida" (female), which are also used synonymously.
In certain circumstances, "cariño" (darling, honey, baby, sweetheart) is not always used to express appreciation and/or affection for a person; it is sometimes used as a derogatory term of irony, mockery, and even contempt.
An example would be:
«¡Cariño, me encanta tu cabello!»
("Dear, I love your hair!").
Here I can use this phrase to express affection or hypocrisy.
[@TouLo9] it's good that you notified about changes, but the persons who really need to be notified are the translators, so you need to leave this message under each translation a song has.
Beside this, the second change you made has been long discussed here: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/comment/1119494#1119494
The changes were made following suggestions by native Spanish editors and moderators, so when editing something they edited before, you should at the very least consult with them before you make those changes. I invite you to join the discussion with them at the link I gave you and discuss these changes with them.

[@Enjovher] you sure about seeing "cariño" as a term of endearment? Because, unless in Spanish the male form is used regardless of the gender of the person it's attached to, it should take the female form in this context
