Midagi head?
Kui jõulud on möödas
ja näärid on läbi,
siis ometi tubli tükk talve on ees.
Näe, kuuse peal külmetab
pisike käbi,
jääkülmad on seemned ta soomuste sees.
Kui jõulud on möödas
ja näärid on läinud,
siis ometi tahaksid midagi head.
Kui külma käes
õue peal oled sa käinud,
siis tead, küllap tead, mida tegema pead.
Näe, tihasel kohevil sulgedevahe,
näe värvukest - vaprasti säutsuvat meest!
Neil süüa ei ole,
neil lumes on jahe.
Too tangu ja pekki ja toida neid kohe!
Too toitu ja täna neid sellegi eest,
et nemad siit Eestimaalt ära ei lähe -
ka siis, kui nälg ja on kangesti jahe...

Something good?
When Christmas has passed
and New Year's [1] is done
a whole lot of winter is before us
Look, a small cone is freezing
on that spruce.
Ice cold seeds inside his scales
When Christmas has passed
and New Year's[1] is done
you would still want something nice.
When in the cold
you've been on your lawn
you know, I'm sure you know, what you have to do
Look, the tit has puffed up feathers
see the passer - a bravely singing man!
They have nothing to eat,
they're cold in the snow.
Bring groat and lard and feed them now!
Bring good and thank them for that at least,
that they won't leave Estonia -
even when they're hungry and terribly cold.

[1] Can't think of a good translation for "näärid". During Soviet time you couldn't celebrate Christmas. Instead you had "näärid", which was sorta like Christmas but different enough for the Soviet regime and at a slightly different time. But also, apparently the word has deep roots in Estonian folklore and was used in reference to New Year's traditions celebrated since the Medieval times (not anymore though) (source: Wikipedia).
