Aedeus Variations

Poi che ’n breve ora
Entra ’l mio riso hai misti
Tanti acerbi toschi
Tuoi, dal mio cor esci

Vattene!
Nelle tue notti
Va, solo a tuoi tormenti

Ormai dormono
Tacciono qui i miei sospir
Lasciami immoto
Stesa tra l’onde
O dormir
Memoria come cenere
Si sparse

Ha-a-ha
Ha-a-ha
Ha-a-ha
Ha-a-a-ha

Caggio quand’i’ non ho
Chi mi rileve
Quando in tuo cor rompo
Lasso, non giova ch’i’ ero

Ormai dormono
Tacciono qui i miei sospir
Lasciami immoto
Stesa tra l’onde
O dormir
Memoria come cenere
Si sparse

Ormai dormono
Tacciono qui i miei sospir
Lasciami immoto
Stesa tra l’onde
O dormir

Aedeus*

Since in this slight hour
In my laughter, you have mixed
All your bitter poison
And in my heart also ...

Get thee hence!
Return to your nights
Hence, alone to your torments

Henceforth, may my sighs
Slumber and be silent
Leave me motionless
On the wave
I would sleep
My memory as
Ash disheveled

Ha-a-ha
Ha-a-ha
Ha-a-ha
Ha-a-a-ha

I fall... and no one
Comes to raise me
When I am dashed
In your heart
Alas! Living has taught me nothing ...

Henceforth, may my sighs
Slumber and be silent
Leave me motionless
On the wave
I would sleep
My memory as
Ash disheveled

Henceforth, may my sighs
Slumber and be silent
Leave me motionless
On the wave
I would sleep

著者コメント:

This is Old Italian (Medieval Italian), and the translation comes from Emma Shapplin's official website. It's also available in the album's booklet. I did not translate this, Emma's site has been kind enough to make an English translation available for fans.

*= As for the title, I've yet to find an actual translation. I'm going with my gut (and Latin), that it might be "To God or Towards God".
