Ballad of a dissident (Balada Disidenta)

English translation

Ballad of a dissident

Do you remember how it was before,
After all, what else is left now, my Belgrade ?

I remember long ago, still in a golden pitcher,
The first time I saw the microphone, it was on the table,
In the shadow of a cold chestnut, where did my dear disappeared,
I carved the name, threw the first rime,
I grew up on the songs of urban bohemia,
And stories of fishermen who are now gone,
Forged with the best,in the smoky tavern,
Courting the ladies, gambled with Limpar,
Once I was home & happy, sometimes lost everything,
Once I hugged a woman, kissed the pavement once,
And I didn't judge to myself, wherever I would woke up,
The pain was the same, with it I teamed up,
So I collected memories, like the scars to remind,
That it wasn't always cold and gray,
That blood red like wine, was coloring the night,
Through the reflections in the glass, there were your eyes,
And I had to go away, the carriage was waiting for me,
Belgrade farewell, many of these things I didn't said to you.

Chorus
Do you remember how it was before,
After all, what else is left now, my Belgrade ?

Forget me dear, forget that I love you,
Continue to live, maybe I no longer exist,
I embrace memories in the dark, while I color them with a key for happiness,
To not think of the screams that I hear down the hall,
While struggling with wounds, I dream that,
I'm drunk with wine, rakija and tambourines,
Old violin, and torn voices,
With a sad song of gypsies, smoke, and broken glasses,
With my bohemians I shout on the table,
I shoot, recite poems, rob for the letter,
Because of only one verse, my life is now over,
Full verse in the heart, while on the window I'm watching the island,
I dream that I smell your look, while your body is dancing next to mine
Tears flow like rain in the autumn,
'Hey don't come dawn, let me ache
Never dawn while inside of me is a song,
But I had to go because I bothered someone,
Belgrade farewell, I did not tell you this too.

Chorus
Do you remember how it was before,
After all, what else is left now, my Belgrade ?

Today, wounds hurt me more, than behind the school,
Than sound of this verse, I had to go,
But now I'm here again, but everything is lost,
They cut down the chestnut, where I once kissed you,
Limes don't smell, there is no old violin,
No white-haired gypsy to take care of my sorrow,
My Belgrade
I lost my roots, I wear medals for nothing,
when nobody knows me,
A star of Black Đorđe, now I gave for the bowl of grapes,
Why do I need a medal, when I don't have anyone,
Only restlessness and pain, my best friends,
In the pub I break glasses until my soul bleeds,
Ballad of a dissident, one sad Serbian song,
For some future taverns, for better times
To be caught in the throat, when someone else is singing this,
Everything is the same in my neighborhood, but there is no me anymore,
I had to go, nobody needed me like that,
Belgrade farewell, remember well what I said!

Chorus
Do you remember how it was before,
After all, what else is left now, my Belgrade ?
