Translation
When I Wanted to Be Older
They become lost in time;
my years become further away,
my father no longer takes me by the hand,
only his wisdom.
In me lives the memories of a child
when I wished for a star,
how I remember my father
and with that I'd smile,
while my mother looked on.
The years slowly came at first,
with slowness they passed,
how I wanted to be older, I recall;
so I wouldn't remain at home.
And to accompany my father far away,
perhaps to the ends of the earth,
because my father was strong,
he was very intelligent,
he was better than any other.
Now I don't want the years to pass,
because my father is old,
his hands are covered in wrinkles
and his hair whitened like snow.
Oh Lord let time stop, I beg you
because I know you can do it,
because I truly don't understand, God
why the good things leave us.
When your steps grow weak
I want to be the one that takes care of them,
for now give me your arm
and we'll see what it is you have to say to me.
