- 1. Any imaginary town or large village.
- 2. A village in north Sardinia.
- 3. The Cantu a Tenores is a traditional Sardinian style of singing, it’s a polyphonic song in which the chorus overlaps the soloist voice , repeating guttural vocalizations such as "birimbai birambimbò".
- 4. The Ballu Tundu is a traditional Sardinian dance.
- 5. It’s a play on words: “mannu” means “great”, but it’s also the surname of Francesco Ignazio Mannu (1758 –1839), the author of the hymn “Su patriotu sardu a sos feudatarios” (The Sardinian patriot to feudal lords) from which the Sardinian national anthem was taken.
- 6. It’s a quote from the above-cited hymn which has become proverbial “Cando si tenet su bentu est pretzisu bentulare” (when the wind rises it’s the right time to winnow): take profit from the right time. It is implied that the blowing wind is the wind of revolt.
- 7. As this song was written in the 80s, it’s likely a reference to the sardist electoral victories in those years. Nevertheless the singer, who was also a sardist militant, is aware that those victories weren’t destined to be definitive.
