The Calandra Lark*

In a golden cage
Hanging from a balcony
There was a calandra lark
Singing her pain

Until a little sparrow
Came to her cage
"If you can get me out,
I'll leave with you"

And the poor liitle sparrow
Fell in love with her
And the poor soul, as best he could
Broke the wires

And the ungrateful calandra lark
After he got her out
As soon as she saw herself free
She flew, she flew and she flew!

The poor sparrow
He still followed her
To see if she would fulfil
What she promised him

The wicked calandra lark
Replied this to him:
"I don't know you
Nor have I been a prisoner"

The little sparrow, sad,
Then went back
He stopped at an apple tree
He cried, he cried and he cried

And now in that cage
Hanging from the balcony
The little sparrow is found
Singing his passion

In a golden cage
Hanging from a balcony
There was a calandra lark
Singing her pain

Until a little sparrow
Came to her cage
"If you can get me out,
I'll leave with you"

And the poor liitle sparrow
Fell in love with her
And the poor soul, as best he could
Broke the wires

And the ungrateful calandra lark
After he got her out
As soon as she saw herself free
She flew, she flew and she flew!

Thank you for a good English translation.
Try to follow the rhythm of the original, if possible.
The verses shouldn’t be too long or too short.
y el pobre como pudo > And the poor soul, as well as he could (is too long)
voló, voló y voló! > She flew, flew and flew! (fits better)
lloró, lloró y lloró > He cried, cried and cried
Kind regards
