Original lyrics
Mazhaneer Thullikal
Mazhaneer thullikal
Nin thanuneer muthukal
Thanuvaayi peythidum
Kanavaayi thorunnidum
Venshanghile laya gaandharvamayi
Neeyente saarangiyil
Ithalidum naanathin
Thenthulliyaayi
Kathiridum mohathin
Ponnolamaayi (mazhaneer)
Raamegham pol
Vinthaaram pol
Neeyenthe akale nilppoo
Kaathare nin chundile
Santhyil alinjidaam
Viriyum chandralekha enthino
Kaathu ninnennorthu njaan
(Mazhaneer)
Thoomanjile veyil naalam pol
Nin kannilen chumbanam
Thoovalaayi kozhinjoree
Aardramaam nilaa kulir
Anayum njaatuvela enthino
Oru mathra kaatennorthu njaan
(Mazhaneer)

Translation
Drops of rain
drops of rain,
Like cold pearl drops on you.
It showers like cold dew
And fade away like dream
As sweet heavenly tune which is in a white conch
You are in my saarangi (a string music instrument)
Like blooming shyness which is like a honey drop,
Like budding wish which resembles soft waves
(drops of rain.....)
Like the cloud in the night sky
Like stars in the night sky
Why are standing far from me?
My beloved,
I will blend in the dawn that lies in your lips
I'm wondering why the rising moon is waiting ahead?
(drops of rain......)
Like the rays of sun in snow
So is my kiss on your eyes
Like the falling feathers;
Is this dense chill in moonlight
I'm wondering why the shower that is lying ahead,
Is still waiting a moment to downpour.

You might be confused by the meaning. The lyrics use a lot of metaphor and has personified a lot of natural phenomenons as the feelings of love or as the beloved. Moreover it has a lot of similies. I'm a english and malayalam poet. So I can understand what the lyricist clearly wants to express. Since the song is written in malayalam all the poetic device has a unique malayalam touch which cannot be directly translated into english. I've tried my level best to translate it and hope it would be helpful for you. Mazhaneerthullikal is my favourite song and I suggest you to listen to its both male and female version. The female version has a little change in lyrics. The actual lyrics is penned in the male point of view so the female version has changed the lyrics into the female point of view.
Thank you.
