Dwarves of Xàtiva

Those that know nothing of wells or rope
shall never come to want it or drink the water
good mother, a good arm cures and wounds all.

The wine is a bit bitter, and brief is the taste
hunger and bitterness from the years that have passed
breaking one's back far from the bread,
an air of heads of wheat, an air and they're gone.

Those that know nothing of the green of the olive grove
those who don't feel the earth with their hands
don't understand laughter nor tears
don't enjoy life nor do they fear death.

They will not have forgotten it yet
and from time to time they're suddenly
surprised by the sorrow when they sing
the old melodies of the dwarves.

They could not have been able to forget
the sorrowful cry they have made
they're surprised when the sing they raise their voices
to the air, to the air and it's gone.
