Shadows of the Destiny

To leave for a distant land
was always my illusion
And here I am finally
With a forced smile,
Bitter and sad
I will wander from sea to sea
I will travel from wind to wind
Searching for a future
Amidst the shadows of the destiny

My life is an endless toing and froing
It's the fate of a Cape-verdian son
To live an unconstant peace
Like the fate of a gypsy
I will live with torments
In a world filled with evil
My destiny is so hurt and sorrowful
Into a silence of longing

Hi, Berliner25, I agree with all you suggestions, thank you. Well, as for 4), it is not clear to a native, if the text is made for a woman to sing it, actually "son" is referred either to men or women, it is a general sense, and not only for children and in Portuguese, masculine genre is preferred. Maybe there can be another ways to render this line much better. :)
