Original lyrics
Starálfur
Blá nótt yfir himininn
Blá nótt yfir mér
Horf-inn út um gluggann
Minn með hendur
Faldar undir kinn
Hugsum daginn minn
Í dag og í gær
Blá náttfötin klæða mig í
Beint upp í rúm
Breiði mjúku sængina
Loka augunum
Ég fel hausinn minn undir sæng
Starir á mig lítill álfur
Breytir mér í, en hreyfist ekki
Úr stað – sjálfur
Starálfur
Opna augun
Stírurnar úr
Teygi mig og tel (Hvort ég sé ekki)
Kominn aftur og allt allt í lagi
Samt vantar eitthvað
Eins og alla veggina
(Starir á mig lítill álfur)
(Breytir mér í)
Úr stað – sjálfur
Ég er...

Translation
The Staring Elf
Blue night over the sky
Blue night over me
I look out my window
With my hands
Concealed under my cheek
Reminiscing my day
Today and yesterday
Putting on my blue pajamas
Going straight up to bed
Spreading my soft blanket over me
Closing my eyes
I then hide my head under the sheets
Staring at me, a little elf
Changes into me, without moving
From its spot - itself
The staring elf
Opening my eyes
Removing the crust
I stretch myself and check (Whether I have)
Come back, and everything, everything is ok
Yet something's missing
Such as the walls, all of them
(Staring at me, a little elf)
Changes into me)
From its spot - itself/myself
I am...

Russia is waging a disgraceful war on Ukraine. Stand With Ukraine!
I completely reworked my translation of Starálfur that I made into French and then translated it into English, for I think the former translation available is not 100%, missing the actual meaning of the lyrics on several occasions. If any native Icelandic speaker can spot any mistake from my account, please by all means feel free to tell me :) for the record, I'm not a native English speaker, so forgive me if it's maybe not as "Englishy" as it should be. I am however a professional translator of Icelandic, so I'm pretty confident my translation is accurate.
