Bus stop Venus (Vénus des abribus)

English translation

Bus stop Venus

You souldn't have showed off
in leather and laces.
You shouldn't have posed as a goer(1)
to attract them.
Ok, but the girls
they didn't want to stay
there on the couches
watching them walk by.
They wanted to go for it,
and I'm just like them
like them, like them

There are Venuses at bus stops
crying over terminus loves
There are Venuses at bus stops
crying over terminus loves

You shouldn't have rendez-vous(2)
except with the fools(3).
You shouldn't have turned your back
and watch them leave.
Ok, but the girls
they wanted to board
these great freighter
and look at life from up high
and keep to their own little word,
and I'm just like them
like them, like them

You souldn't have said I love you
in the bleak early hours.
You shoudln't have believed,
you shoudln't have believed them too much
on train platforms.
OK, but the girls
they didn't want to hear
the little disturbing song.
They wanted fast and strong(4)
and I agree with them
and I'm just like them
like them, like them

Author's comments:

Never before attempting to translate one of her songs had I realized how poor a writer Patricia Kaas is.
Believe it or not, I had actually more trouble digging a consistent meaning out of her contorted French than translating it into English!

----------------------------------
(1) litt. "you shouldn't have posed as a the kind of girl that wears 'rouge baiser' "
"rouge baiser" (kiss-red) is a famous lipstick associated with women emancipation. In this context it is somewhat derogatory. Sorry to have picked a Brittish term, but the US "slut" was a bit too harsh.
(2) the French sentence is gramatically incorrect too and, unless I missed something, there is no pun or other justification to it.
(3) following the previous whacky sentence, this one becomes rather confusing. As far as I understand it, it boils down to "if you allow a man to wine and dine you, expect to wake up in his bed unless your date was a perfect fool"
(4) same remark as (2)
