Notes:
This song is a pilgrim's prayer (ուխտագնացի աղոթք). The singer is on a journey to the holy mountain of Maratuk, which was home to the Սուրբ Աստվածածին monastery, the Holy Mother of God. This was a real and very important pilgrimage site in the Sasun region.
The entire song is a plea to the Holy Mother of God, who is embodied by the mountain and the monastery. The pilgrim is asking her to grant their մուրազ—their heart's deepest wish, vow, or prayer.
In the Armenian Christian folk tradition, the saints and especially the Mother of God are not seen as passive, gentle figures. They are powerful, active intercessors and protectors. The "Powerful Army" in this song is a metaphor for the celestial host of angels, saints, and divine powers that serve the Mother of God.
When the pilgrim says "Զորավոր զորքիդ մեռնեմ," they are saying: "Let me die for [the Mother of God's] powerful army."
This is the ultimate expression of reverence and awe. The pilgrim is so overwhelmed by the spiritual power of the place and the divine majesty of the Holy Mother that they are expressing their devotion not just to her, but to the entire heavenly host that surrounds and protects her holy site. They are bowing down before the full might of Heaven, which is present on that mountain.
