Моцарт на старенькой скрипке играет
Моцарт играет, а скрипка поет.
Моцарт отечества не выбирает.
Просто играет всю жизнь напролет.
 
Ах, ничего, что всегда, как известно,
Наша судьба - то гульба, то пальба,
Не оставляйте стараний, маэстро,
Не убирайте ладони со лба.
 
Где-нибудь на остановке конечной
Скажем спасибо и этой судьбе.
Но из грехов нашей родины вечной
Не сотворить бы кумира себе.
 
Ах, ничего, что всегда, как известно,
Наша судьба - то гульба, то пальба,
Не расставайтесь с надеждой, маэстро.
Не убирайте ладони со лба.
 
Коротки наши лета молодые.
Миг, и развеятся, как на кострах
Красный камзол, башмаки золотые,
Белый парик, рукава в кружевах.

Mozart

On an old violin Mozart is playing;
Mozart is playing a violin song.
His allegiance to no land Mozart is paying.
He has simply been playing all his life long.
 
Oh, it’s alright that in life, as we all know,
We are destined to either a feast, or a fight.
Do not abandon your efforts, maestro,
Just keep on dreaming of music, in spite.
 
Somewhere, sometime on the very last station,
We will be grateful to even such fate.
But from the sins of our perpetual nation,
Don’t make an idol and don’t take that bait.
 
Oh, it’s alright that in life, as we all know,
We are destined to either a feast, or a fight.
Do not abandon your hope, oh maestro,
Just keep on dreaming of music, in spite.
 
Youth is too short, and its days are declining.
In a flash, they will vanish without a trace.
Scarlet waistcoat, golden shoes – chic and shining,
White powdered wig and shirt sleeves in sheer lace.
 
Oh, it’s alright that in life, as we all know,
We are destined to either a feast, or a fight,
Don’t pay to those your attention, maestro,
Just keep on dreaming of music, in spite.
