Отсе тая стежечка,
Де дівчина йшла,
Що з мойого сердечка
Щастя унесла.
 
Ось туди пішла вона
Та гуляючи,
З іншим своїм любчиком
Розмовляючи.
 
За її слідами я,
Мов безумний, біг,
Цілував з сльозами я
Пил із її ніг.
 
Наче потопаючий
Стебелиночку,

Like insane run. You completely misunderstood fourth verse. Like a drowning person(man) who will try to catch a tiny straw to save his life, so is his eyesight try to catch the glimpse of her just for a moment. Hastily my ear caught all her words.

What is the meaning of using the pearl diver analogy? Is he grasping for something?
Like the diver struggeling for the pearls?
Don't understand your first sentence, .... run.

After chaging it, I think I understand what he's saying . Thanks as usual!
