Because of the sorrow you've caused me, oh sweetheart; I intend to travel far away.
From now onwards I am changing the direction of my Qibla.1
I'm leaving and taking along, the scars of your cruelty.
Your separation and connection, I will bury.
So that others are not afflicted by your deception,
In every place, I will shout about the sorrow you've caused me.
Your stories, oh beautiful2 stranger,
I will tell with a heart full of grief and tearful eyes.
- 1. implying he is traveling so far away that the direction of prayer is different. In Islam, one prays towards the Kaaba which is stationary, therefore must orient towards prior to prayer depending on relative location in the world).
- 2. The direct translation of "بت" is statue or idol, but in poetry often refers to a "beautiful woman."
