Hammerfest

A family takes a car trip to Norway.
The car is packed full, there's food in the cooler bag.
They've got a new tent with a striped pretty awning.
A family takes a car trip to Norway.
At the wheel sits the wise dad, Erkki,
next to him his wife, Minna,
at the back the kids, Riitta and Esa.

The old restlessness makes dad vexed once again.
Mother's nagging and dad is driving way too fast.
The kids are eating ice cream.

The dad, Erkki, never drinks booze.
The mom, Minna, subscribes to a women's magazine.
The son, Esa, plays soccer
and Riitta plays the violin.

Many times Dad thinks of Anja,
with whom he was before Minna.
Would it have been different if he had stayed with Anja?
Probably not.

The old restlessness makes dad vexed once again.
Mother's nagging and dad is driving way too fast.
The kids are eating ice cream.

A family takes a car trip to Norway.
They see a river, they see fjelds.
Dad drives as quick as flash
past them.
They see a car, there's been an accident there.
Someone's waving, but they're not stopping.
"Surely others have the time to help them", says dad,
"We're in a hurry."

Not until the mainland stops to a scarp will he calm down.
Only at the last scarp of Hammerfest
dad will taste the ice cream,
the ice cream.
He feels the sea breeze caressing him,
caressing him.
