As a senior translator with academic theory experience, my personal policy is to stay as close to the original text as possible. This is, however, not always possible with all texts, especially not with Danish. Notice that a lot of idioms and expressions do not exist 1:1 and have never done so. Sentences which are short and straightforward in English often become complicated and long-winded in Danish.
