[Spoken introducton]
Her: It's time to go.
Him: Yes.
Her: Will we see each other again?
Him: You know we will.
Her: When? Where?
Him: All the time. Everywhere. You'll see me in every place you go ... my good angel1.
[Sung]
If a little paper boat
is about to sink, rescue it
correct its rudder,
My love
it might be me; perhaps it's me
you'll recall, that's how I was.
My love
it might be me; perhaps it's me
you'll recall, that's how I was.
And when that young man
you will fall in love with
comes at last,
and he's displeased to see
that you have kept
a wallet-sized photo of me,
kiss him, and tell him that
I was just an errant hope
An errant hope, and nothing more.
[Spoken]
Her: And you ... what will you do?
Him: I will stay. That's another way of departing, isn't it?
Her: (Doesn't answer. Starts crying.)
Him: There, there. Everything's alright.
[Sung]
And when that young man
you will fall in love with
comes at last,
and he's displeased to see
that you have kept
a wallet-sized photo of me,
kiss him, and tell him that
I was just an errant hope
An errant hope, and nothing more.
My love ... [refrain x2]
- 1. "Mi bien" is a somewhat old-fashioned term of endearment. The usage is similar to "my dear," or "the light of my life" but it literally means "(you are) my goodness."
- 2. "Contagialo" would be more literally "infect it" (with your warmth.) The word shares a root with contagion, which doesn't have a verb-form in English.

Song in what is hopefully the context of its original video, with transcription in the "read more" available here.
The YouTube comments on the more popular videos are full of heartache and remembrance because the artist who composed this (who was also a celebrated director) died in 2012.
