The Promise

We were some men -
Some men and some women, dreaming of liberty.
We were not for sale.
But we could resell some mountains of friendship.
The heart in a shoulder strap,
And arms open wide to all strangers…
We didn’t have fear.
We felt the warmth that we knew to give in return.

Even at the very end of the desert,
We helped the weakest to never fall.
Even in the middle of wild dreams,
We believed even stronger when courage was lacking.

For you, my campanons, my friends of youth -
Whatever your stories are, don’t ever forget
That one beautiful day we made a promise together :
If there only remains but one day, we will make the most of it.

We were full of ardor
And we would go out, victorious from our poor wounds.
When the hearts were heavy,
We would always find a voice that assured us.
We had enough desire,
That we saw our lives as a beautiful adventure.
We had no master,
The only thing to submit to was the sea of nature.

For you, my campanons, my friends of youth -
Whatever your stories are, don’t ever forget
That one beautiful day we made a promise together :
If there only remains but one day, we will make the most of it.
