1. No more in French than in English, we associate the word "coup" (stroke) with the word " love" or with "(a stroke of) I love you." It's not at all usual. That's, therefore, a poetic license
2. If you want to keep the same number of syllables in each verse, this song is very complicated to translate. This is because the author used a considerable number of ellipses. It's usually used in popular spoken language but not in writing. This is why you'll find numerous apostrophes ' in this translation.
